Reverse Aging

Onda Lifting

Onda uses microwaves to deliver heat to the subcutaneous fat layer and connective tissue. We first distinguish whether fat or sagging is the cause.

Onda Lifting

A heavy-looking facial contour is not always the result of sagging. Not infrequently, the thickness of the fat layer remaining under the chin and in the anterior cheek shapes the impression. Onda is a device that delivers heat to the subcutaneous fat layer and the surrounding connective tissue, drawing on the property by which microwave energy is known to be absorbed relatively well by fat tissue.

Recommended for

  • Those who remain bothered by a double chin and fat in the anterior cheek
  • Those whose facial line looks heavier even without a change in weight
  • Those who want contouring by a method that does not use needles
  • Those concerned about the thickness that remains even after lifting
  • Those who would also like to discuss body areas such as the abdomen or arms

Our View

How we see it at Cheongdam Laplace

Microwaves absorbed by the fat layerOnda uses microwave energy in a different wavelength range from ultrasound or radiofrequency. It draws on the way heat gathers relatively well in fat tissue to work toward a change in volume and contraction of the surrounding connective tissue, and the degree of response varies by individual.
Broad coverage with a moving handpieceUnlike treatments that leave coagulation points spot by spot, the handpiece is moved to build heat across an area. One characteristic is that curved areas such as under the chin can be covered relatively evenly.
We separate fat from sagging firstFor the same double chin, Onda fits when fat is the cause, while a different approach fits when fascial laxity is. Laplace uses palpation to weigh the two causes, and does not recommend treatments that do not apply.

The process

01

Weighing the causes

We use palpation to separate the thickness of the fat from the degree of skin laxity, and set the target areas for delivering heat.

02

Marking the treatment zones

We draw the zones where heat will be built, such as under the chin, the anterior cheek, and the mandibular line, directly on the face to balance the two sides first.

03

Temperature-controlled delivery

After gel is applied, we watch the surface temperature and move the handpiece at a steady pace to build heat.

04

Setting a session plan

Rather than overdoing a single visit, we agree in advance on a plan of sessions at 3-4 week intervals, matched to your current condition.

Treatment information

Treatment time and recovery period may vary depending on the treatment area and your individual condition.
Treatment timeAbout 20-40 minutes depending on the area
AnesthesiaUsually performed without anesthesia (topical anesthetic if sensitive)
RecoveryDaily activity the same day; warmth usually a few hours (varies by individual)
Recommended intervalUsually 3-5 sessions at 3-4 week intervals, then reassessment
Treatment areasUnder-chin · Anterior cheek · Mandibular line · Abdomen · Arms and others

Frequently asked questions

Is it different from liposuction?

It is. It is not surgery that physically removes fat, but a non-invasive treatment that uses heat to induce a change in the volume of fat tissue and contraction of the surrounding tissue. The change is more gradual than with surgery and is reviewed over several sessions.

Is one session enough?

Onda is a treatment whose progress is reviewed gradually over several sessions, generally at 3-4 week intervals. The number of sessions needed depends on the fat thickness and your goal, so it is adjusted in consultation, and the degree of change varies by individual.

Does it feel hot during the treatment?

A steady warming sensation continues, and when one spot feels hot we lower the intensity or adjust how fast the handpiece moves. We proceed while checking the surface temperature, so please tell us at any point during the treatment if anything feels uncomfortable.

Can areas other than the face be treated?

It is also used on areas with a fat layer, such as the abdomen, flanks, arms, and thighs. The number of sessions and the time needed differ by area, so setting the target area first and then building a plan helps in reviewing progress.

Precautions and possible side effects

  • Redness and a sensation of heat may remain in the treated area for a few hours.
  • Temporary swelling, tenderness, and a heavy feeling to the touch may occur.
  • Burns, blisters, or pigment changes on the skin surface are reported rarely.
  • A temporarily firm nodule may be felt under the skin.
  • It is not performed for those with metal implants or a pacemaker in the body.
  • It is not performed during pregnancy or where there is inflammation in the treatment area.

Treatment results may vary depending on individual condition, and side effects may occur. Please confirm the details through a consultation with our medical staff.
